MAPIC: A Memoir

Week #48 saw retail stories dominate the headlines with Savills’ acquisition of Central London retail specialists, Nash Bond. The international property consultancy announced the news at MAPIC, Cannes, which this week played host to the industry’s movers and shakers; including the Innesco team.

MAPIC is always a flourishing annual highlight for anyone involved in retail destinations and this year was no exception. Innesco once again travelled out en masse to Cannes to represent a host of international clients, in addition to managing the international press relations office for MAPIC itself.

Innesco’s long-standing clients, Eurofund GroupInsite Food and American Dreamreturned to MAPIC to promote their exceptional work and projects – with Innesco supporting them through their busy schedule of meetings with international retailers and emerging F&B brands, along with several media briefings.

The event is also a logical first step for new international destinations to network with established locations and brands. Innesco was also pleased to support MAPIC debutant, Mohammed Bin Salman Nonprofit City (“Misk City”), to launch its visionary and progressive new destination on the international stage. An exclusive breakfast briefing organised by the Innesco team and held at the Carlton Hotel hosted a range of innovative brands interested in the unique opportunities provided both in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and within Misk City.

As with our attendance at MIPIM earlier in the year, another week in the South of France was a reminder of the value of face-to-face networking. With corporate budgets under increasing pressure, there will always be some who question the value of industry events. However, as an international business built on the foundations of human relationships, Innesco is inevitably an advocate of any events that promote knowledge-sharing and networking opportunities; carefully planned and curated with specific success criteria in mind – there is no greater alternative.

Our annual MAPIC drinks reception and subsequent “Survivor’s Lunch” provided opportunities to connect with clients and contacts across the industry, in addition to being hosted at friends’ events including P-THREETAM Group and 3real.

Our MD and founder, Dan Innes, was also part of the official conference programme, moderating a panel session on ‘Growth Concepts: Fit for the Future” featuring Alejandro Gomez Montanari of KIABI and Tobias Rickard Karlsson of KIKO.

After another successful year at MAPIC, it’s back to rainy London for most of the team, while others head back to the GCC and North America. We hope that if you attended, you had a great week.
