Not what you know but who you know? – Networking at BCSC Summer SocialDigital Manager
Last night Innesco attended BSCS Summer Social held at the Sky Bar roof terrace with spectacular views over the iconic St Paul’s Cathedral and the city.
A great venue, fantastic weather and a delicious BBQ the event was the perfect networking opportunity to establish new contacts. Everyone has heard about the many benefits networking can bring but networking is not always as straightforward as it may seem.
At Innesco we not only attend all key industry events and networking opportunities in the UK and across Europe such as BCSC and ICSC events/conferences, MAPIC, MIPIM and EXPO REAL but we can also help our clients to make the most of any events they attend. We can for instance provide vital networking training for our clients or help to set up new meetings and lasting business relationships. We also help to inform clients with the best, most insightful information and intelligence to ensure conversations are topical and up to the minute.
So, in terms of networking what are the most important aspects to consider? To start with always try to obtain the delegate list and remember to bring your business cards and enough of them – that’s a given. Once there, ask a lot of questions, this will help to find common ground to talk about and identify any new opportunities. Be prepared – make sure you are up to speed with the (very!) latest news and industry chatter that can help you to start a conversation or keep it going. Go armed with an opinion!
Finally, most importantly, it is to follow up afterwards to really establish the relationship with the new contact. Who knows if it ever leads to new business, but sharing views and news amongst peers remains the best way to extend your network.
