OMG – Primark to open in France this year!Digital Manager
Seen as one of the main attractions in London, just like Buckingham Palace or Big Ben, a trip to Primark is compulsory for my compatriots when crossing the Channel. So, the French will be delighted with the news that Primark, the fast-fashion brand, will open its first stores in France, by the end of the year.
Announced in September 2012, Primark confirmed the opening of its two first French stores in Marseille and Aulnay-sous-Bois, for autumn 2013. According to the French national newspaper Le Figaro, the stores will be located at O’Parinor shopping centre on the outskirts of Paris in Seine-Saint-Denis and at Grand Littoral in the French Riviera, city of Marseille.
There is no plan yet to open a store in Paris. Mr Weston, chief executive of Primark’s parent company Associated British Foods, said: “We will open a couple, not in flagship locations, and we will learn. We will learn about reception, difference in mix, trading hours etc, and then we will take it from there.”
In other words, the French fashionistas will decide on the future expansion of the Irish retailer in France. No doubt, they will give in to it… Let’s just hope this does not affect the annual average 3.6 million French tourists visiting London every year.
