Bouygues Development was delivering the regeneration of Addlestone town centre in Surrey - a mixed-use scheme bringing new homes, retail, leisure and public realm into the heart of an established commuter town. A project of this visibility in a sensitive town-centre location demanded early, transparent engagement with residents, traders, civic stakeholders and the local authority - alongside a disciplined external narrative through the consultation and development stages of the scheme.
Town-centre regeneration only succeeds when the existing community feels informed, listened to and invested in the outcome. Local trust, council confidence and positive media framing were all essential to protect the planning timetable, support pre-let activity and establish Addlestone's new town centre as a credible local destination from day one.
- Designed and delivered a structured community engagement programme through the consultation and development phases of the scheme
- Convened and facilitated stakeholder workshops with residents, local traders, civic groups and Runnymede Borough Council to surface priorities and feed insight back into the development
- Authored the Statement of Community Involvement supporting the planning process - documenting consultation activity, feedback received and how it shaped the scheme
- Ran a media relations programme across local, regional and trade press during the consultation and development period - covering planning milestones, early construction progress and pre-let activity
- Developed a local schools initiative connecting the project with Addlestone's young people - using the regeneration as a live case study for learning around construction, placemaking and the future of the high street
- Provided counsel to senior Bouygues stakeholders on messaging, sensitive issues management and reputational positioning through consultation and development
The results.
- Smooth, well-evidenced consultation process supporting the scheme through planning and delivery
- Constructive, ongoing relationships with Runnymede Borough Council, residents and local traders
- Balanced media coverage across local, regional and trade titles through the consultation and development phases
- Genuine community footprint established through schools engagement - embedding the scheme in Addlestone's civic life beyond the construction hoardings
- Scheme handed on from the consultation and development stages with strong local goodwill and a credible community and stakeholder platform in place
